sebaseba
hospitality | a restaurant renovation concept
sebaseba is a conceptual design for an Ethiopian coffee house and eatery. The coffee ceremony is central to Ethiopian culture, and sebaseba puts the traditional coffee ceremony at the heart of its space planning. Three coffee ceremony platforms are nestled between standard table seating. One is larger than the rest, which doules as a stage for performances. Ethiopian tapestries adorn the walls, and stools are upholstered with the canvas of burlap sacks once used to store coffee. The interior architecture is informed by the construction of the traditional Ethiopian stick and mud hut - brought to life with the live edge louvers at the facade and along brick walls at the eatery's rear wall. Custom light fixtures composed of woven baskets define spatial zones around the coffee ceremony platforms.
